For ShipStation API accounts based in Germany, you have immediate access to DPD shipping labels with ShipStation API Carriers. There’s no need to create and connect individual carrier accounts. Activate ShipStation API Carriers by adding the billing method you wish to use to purchase your labels and add funds to your ShipStation API Balance.

Add funds to your ShipStation API Balance
You can add funds using ShipStation API’s add_funds endpoint, which must first be enabled by the ShipStation API Support team. If you'd like to add funds via this endpoint, please submit a request to our support team.
To start using ShipStation API Carriers, you must activate it by adding the payment method you wish to use for your labels. Log in to ShipStation API and do the following:
You will now see your available carriers under Setup > Carriers, where you can also find their unique Carrier IDs. You can also make a List Carriers call to view all of your Carrier IDs and available services.
Be sure to also add funds to your ShipStation API Balance so you can start purchasing your labels!
Connecting Your Own Carrier Accounts
You can also connect your own carrier accounts through the My Carrier Accounts section of the Carriers settings page.

ShipStation API manages all loss or damage claims for shipments sent with DPD from ShipStation API.
To file a claim for a lost or damaged shipment you will need to contact the ShipEngine Support Team with the information listed below:

A detailed description of the contents of the package.

A valid Proof of Value such as a the purchase invoice or a copy of the receipt (for example: a shopify sale receipt or an ebay sale receipt).

Any other useful documentation you may have.

(Required for Damaged Package Claims) 3 Pictures of the package showing:

A photo of the damage to the package or item.

A photo of the external view of the package.

A photo of the interior packaging.

DPD labels cannot be voided in ShipStation.

Custom label messages and label branding are not available for DPD shipping labels. The Order Number will be printed on the label in the Ref field.

DPD restricts the customs description field to 25 characters. If the description exceeds this character limit, you may receive an error when attempting to create a label.
By default, ShipStation API uses the product name for the customs description field. If your product names exceed 25 characters, update the description field of the product record to a description that is 25 characters or fewer. This value will overwrite the customs description field for orders going forward.

If your parcel is dropped off at your local DPD store before 12 noon it will have a greater chance of next-day delivery. However, this is not guaranteed. Your item will be delivered within 1-2 working days following drop-off.

🇬🇧 All parcels originating in the UK must be dispatched from a location in England, Scotland, or Wales.

🇬🇧 DPD from ShipStation API shipments originating in the UK are eligible for the standard £50 insurance coverage for loss, damage, or theft of items. Additional carrier insurance is not available.

🇩🇪 DPD from ShipStation API labels for shipments originating in Germany will expire if they are not used within 30 days of creation.

🇩🇪 For DPD from ShipStation API shipments originating in Germany, the maximum insurance coverage is € 50.
Certain courier-imposed fees may be assessed after you create a label and dispatch the parcel.Â
These fees include, but are not limited to:

Excess weight surcharges

Out-of-area surcharges

Courier pick-up surcharges
These fees are assessed by the courier and reported back to ShipStation API. Once ShipStation API has received notification of these charges, they will be deducted from your ShipStation API balance.
