Additional Features for Yodel

The ShipEngine integration with Yodel allows for the following additional features:

Feature

Description

Shipping to Northern Ireland (Windsor Framework)

In alignment with the Windsor Framework, Yodel introduced additional data requirements when shipping from the UK to Northern Ireland (NI). These changes will take effect on 31st March 2025.

On 19th September 2024, the UK Government confirmed that the new arrangements under the Windsor Framework for parcels and freight movements that were planned to come into effect from 30th September 2024 will be deferred until 31st March 2025. See Sending parcels to and from Northern Ireland for the full statement.

  • Yodel does not support B2B shipments from the UK to NI. As there are additional considerations for this movement, Yodel should not be used for this type of shipment.

  • For shipments from the UK to NI, Yodel will expect the following data to be provided for each item/products (naming depends on the GTM platform):

    • Description

    • Quantity

    • Value.

  • Additionally, if available, Yodel recommends adding the HS code.

Mandatory Data as of 31st March 2025

The above data will be mandatory as of 31st March 2025. If not provided, the label will not be generated. If available, you can provide the data for this type of shipment before 30th September.

Ship Date can be set to today’s date or be set to a future date.

Previously, Ship Date needed to be set to a future date, but this is no longer the case with Yodel.

The carrier can be used to create domestic shipping labels.

The carrier can be used to create international shipping labels.

ShipEngine will submit international customs declarations electronically to the carrier.

The carrier can be used to create domestic return labels.

When an API call is made to the Rates endpoint, ShipEngine will return estimated shipping rates for the carrier based on the connected account information and shipment details.

Shipment insurance, provided by the shipment's selected carrier, can be added to the shipment in ShipEngine. This insurance would be in addition to any default coverage already provided by that carrier.

Shipping labels created for this carrier will include a tracking number that can be used to view the shipment status on the carrier's tracking website. Tracking may not be available for all shipping services.

Shipment manifests and End of Day documents are submitted electronically to the carrier by ShipEngine.

Shipment manifests and End of Day documents are generated as PDF files that can be printed along with shipping labels. Because these documents are not electronically submitted, physical copies must be provided to the carrier.

ShipEngine can print your brand logo on shipping labels from carriers that support this feature. Add your logo in the ShipEngine Dashboard.

ShipEngine can include additional information on a shipping label that is specified in the label request, if supported by the carrier.

This carrier can be used to create multi-package shipments, where multiple labels are created for a single shipment and the individual packages are linked together in a single shipment record with a master tracking number.

You can connect this carrier to ShipEngine multiple times using different accounts and choose which account will be used to create each shipment.

Yodel Integration Notes

  • Ship Date can be set to today’s date or be set to a future date.

  • Yodel requires a customer email to be included on the order to successfully create a label. Customer phone number is optional.

  • Label Messages are not supported: Yodel Safe Place service messages do not print on the label. Safe Place is the only service that allows for message input in the UI, but messages (i.e. front porch, conservatory, shed, or your preferred safe place) only appear on the delivery driver’s hand scanner.

  • Customs forms are required for the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland only.

Troubleshooting Tips for Yodel

Here are some common issues, potential causes, and troubleshooting tips.

Issue

How to Troubleshoot or Resolve

Error: invalid tariff code

What it means: The invalid tariff code error message has nothing to do with tariffs, taxes, or customs. The error appears because you selected an invalid service for the shipment.

For example, if you attempt to use Xpress 24 POD NI Only for a shipment not destined for Northern Ireland (NI Only here means “Northern Ireland Only”), you would receive this message since the service is not valid for that destination.

What to do: Contact the Yodel Help Centre if you are unsure which services are valid for your shipments.
